Jasmine Person is a local Redlands resident, solicitor, experienced business owner and senior local government executive with more than 25 years of professional experience across law, local government, public administration, business development and community leadership.
Jasmine holds a Bachelor of Laws, a Bachelor of International Business and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice. She was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2004.
Local government
Jasmine has held senior executive positions in local government, including Executive Manager of Business Development at the Town of Victoria Park and Manager of Investment and Business Development at the Town of Port Hedland, both in Western Australia.
She worked closely with chief executives, elected members, senior management, businesses and community stakeholders, and was responsible for strategic and operational planning, budgets, economic development, grants, tenders, commercial agreements, major projects and organisational performance. At the Town of Victoria Park she led multidisciplinary teams across business and economic development, regulatory services, environmental health and community services, and was lead project manager on major projects including a Parking Management Initiative and a 3.5-kilometre publicly accessible municipal Wi-Fi network.
Law
Jasmine’s legal career, in State Government and in private practice, has built her understanding of governance, legislation, accountability, risk management and sound decision-making. It has required her to exercise independent judgement, interpret complex legislation, manage competing interests and make difficult decisions in challenging circumstances. Her work with Murri Court and Indigenous elders has deepened her understanding of cultural respect, fairness and meaningful community engagement.
Business and community
As the former Principal and Legal Practice Director of iLegal Services, and co-founder and owner of a commercial fishing charter operation in Western Australia, Jasmine understands first-hand what it takes to establish, run and financially manage a business. As President of the Southern Moreton Bay Islands Chamber of Commerce, she worked to strengthen business representation, attract funding and grow membership.
Why Jasmine is running
Jasmine lives in the Redlands, has run her own legal practice locally and has raised her two daughters here. As a ratepayer, she knows that Council decisions have a direct and practical impact on households, families, businesses and the future of the city.
She is not approaching the role as a career politician. She brings professional experience in the areas that matter most to how a council runs: governance, financial management, strategic planning, infrastructure and economic development, organisational leadership, legal compliance, risk management and community engagement. She is prepared to ask difficult questions, challenge established practices where necessary and make decisions in the long-term interests of the Redlands.
The Redlands deserves leadership founded on integrity, transparency, accountability, fairness and responsible financial management. Jasmine is seeking the opportunity to bring her experience, independent judgement and commitment to the community to a role where she can make a real difference, and fix the Redlands.
